One of the many advantages of drinking a brew that's both ancient and international is the delightful variety of delicious coffee recipes there are to help you enjoy your coffee in different ways.
Caribbean, Mexican Mocha, Cuban Cubano and Grog are only a few of our favorite coffee drink recipes, from an endless list of possibilities. You just have to be inventive and a little adventurous.
Our first delicious coffee recipe is one of the more unusual, but be daring. Start by baking a coconut for thirty minutes at 300F (134C).
Remove and allow to cool, then break open the shell and remove the inner flesh and grate. Mix this meat, coconut milk and a half cup of cows milk in a pan and heat until it thickens.
Strain the mixture to remove the coconut granules then mix this concoction with a cup of coffee and sip. Hmmmm...
Like any mocha, the Mexican is a delicious blend of coffee and chocolate, two very natural partners.
Take one teaspoon of your favorite chocolate syrup and add a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour in one cup of coffee and add white or organic sugar to taste.
You can mix with whipping cream, or top with whipped cream, too. Yumm Yumm...
The Cubano is drunk like tequila, straight and like a shot.
There are two methods for making the Cubano. The Cuban way is the the traditional method using a metal stovetop espresso pot or the more modern method uses an electric espresso machine. The stovetop method takes longer, but is the authentic method and you can find a good stovetop espresso maker online.
Use our espresso coffee making method using Cuban coffee beans like Bustelo, Pilon or La LLave. Any of the very dark roast Colombian brands work well for the Cubano.
For every demitasse cup of coffee you plan on making, use a teaspoon of sugar. Cuban Cubano coffee should be very sweet. Place the sugar in the glass carafe before you brew the coffee.
Brew your espresso coffee then pour the coffee over the sugar in the carafe. Then stir it briskly to fully dissolve the sugar. Pour the coffee into several demitasse cups and enjoy.
To make the Cubano an Americano, you should dilute with rum or hot milk. Add rum to taste, but any more than a tablespoon of milk will really spoil the effect.
Grog is a traditional English holiday treat. Carefully peel a large orange and separate into slices. Do the same with a lemon. Put a peel about the size of one orange slice into the bottom of the cup. Mix in one-third tablespoon of butter, a tablespoon of brown sugar, a pinch each of ground cloves and nutmeg. Then throw in a pinch of cinnamon. Pour in a half-cup of coffee and stir. Add heavy cream to taste. Happy holidays.
Other international coffee drink recipes include delights, such as Viennese, Turkish and Vietnamese coffees.
For the Viennese coffee recipe, melt one-eighth cup dark chocolate into a sauce pan and stir in one tablespoon of light cream.
Slowly add a half-cup of coffee and whip until frothy, then allow to settle, before sprinkling cinnamon and cocoa across the surface. Be sure to taste with pinky raised. Now you're an aristocrat.
The Turkish coffee drink recipe is simplicity itself. But; you'll benefit from obtaining one of the special "džezva" pots used to boil the coffee. Yes, boil. Turkish coffee is strong.
Pour a cup of water into the pot and add a half teaspoon of sugar before bringing to a boil. Remove from heat and add a teaspoon of finely ground Turkish coffee, then stir and place back onto the heat. Remove after a layer of foam appears, then allow to settle, cool and drink. Boy that hits the spot.
The Vietnamese iced coffee drink recipe is one you should not miss. Get yourself a Vietnamese coffee press. The hard part is now over. Put the ground coffee in the press, then pour a tablespoon of condensed milk into the bottom of a cup. Pour boiling water over the press and let drip. Stir and add ice. Wow!
Of course, you could save yourself the trouble and simply book a world tour, allowing the locals do all the work, while you sit back and enjoy authenticate coffee drink recipes. Really, not a bad idea actually.
